TAP

Tap is style of dance based on rhythm and percussive foot work. Stomp! And Riverdance has made Tap dancing popular once more. Tap came out of the lower classes, developed by competitive battles on the street corners by Irish immigrants and African slaves in the U.S. Tapers added new steps at the end of the Civil War. These new steps included Soft Shoe, Clog, Time Step and Stop Time. In the 50’s Hollywood made Tap popular and greats such as Fred Astaire refined rhythm tap dance. During the 1960’s Tap became an art form rather than just entertainment.
